LED Technology for Urban Street and Industrial Lighting

The usual lighting provided by the traditional light fittings in the streets of the world is slowly but surely giving way to modern and more energy-saving light fixtures. In modern times, the most common street lighting was done using mercury lights and later came the sodium vapor lamps. With more and more emphasis being placed on conservation of energy and reduction of dependence on oil for energy generation, the newest member that has been embraced by governments in many countries including China are LED light fittings.

Energy Savings
The most commonly used light fitting is the LED street light fixture which has become popular in many cities and towns due to the very bright light it provides as well as the low energy consumption. The LED bulbs have been found to be super efficient when it comes to converting energy to pure light without transferring any of the energy into heat. In energy terms, the emitted light of a 60-watt incandescent bulb is equal to the same lumen of light emitted from a 10 or 11-watt LED bulb. They have also been found to be long lasting, so replacing them often is not a problem. An LED flood light fixture used for street lighting has been found to have a life of over 50,000 hours, which is why many manufacturers offer consumers a 2-year guarantee.

Optimum Industrial Usage
The use of LED lights have also found their way into industrial areas where they are used on factory floors as well as for general lighting of the factory or industrial area at night. A light fitting that is generally placed high up to illuminate a large area is called an LED High Bay light fixture; in factories and work areas, they are placed at heights of over 25 feet for an even light distribution. Typically, an LED light fitting such as a High Bay does not require focused light, and has been found to be very useful because there is no glare or any flickering usually associated with fluorescent lighting. A typical LED High Bay fixture emits around 120 lumens per watt, making it a very efficient light source and consumes quarter of the energy of a fluorescent light.

Lightweight Fittings
LED light fittings used in factories or as street lighting have inbuilt thermal and surge protectors making it ideal for places with uneven supply of electricity and prone to power surges. It is true that LED lights do take some time to warm up, but once they have reached its full potential, they will remain fully bright without any flickering or transmitting any external heat. These types of lights also need specialized housing which can provide a perfect solution for many of the problems in today's urban streets. Usually, the LED street lights have a special die-cast aluminium profile providing an excellent even spread of light. The mounting frame and bracket are usually made from stainless steel to ensure that they do not need replacement for a very long time.
